Huanghesong Theatre: A Harmonious Blend of Culture and Ecology

Xuelin Wu's Award-Winning Design Reflects the Vortex of the Yellow River

The theatre's design, reminiscent of the vortex of the Yellow River, is a testament to the harmonious blend of ecology and culture. The interior design continues this concept, delving into the ritual and music culture of Central Plains culture, and presenting ancient music in a modern context. The project, which covers a total of 35000 square meters, uses artistic design to integrate all functional spaces through different corridors and halls.

What sets this design apart is its innovative interpretation of ingenuity construction. Keeping in mind project construction cost and environmental protection, the selected materials are the best solutions under the comprehensive consideration of cost performance, low-carbon environmental protection, and other factors. The main materials used in this project are super white cave, Monaco grey, grindstone, GRG, and bronze metal.

The project was initiated in August 2021 in Zhengzhou and was completed in August 2022. The design team, led by Xuelin Wu, also included Hai Lin and Gao Li. The team overcame creative, technical, and research challenges, including the issue of multiple columns in the space due to load-bearing needs. The designers creatively used the column as a decoration carrier, integrating multiple design elements, and tailor-made the decorative column with cultural beauty.

The design's underlying research focused on the artistic texture of space, striving for perfection in the treatment of details. The expression form of "flowing water", external quality and internal use, vortex artistic expression, and many other details adhere to the ingenuity to create an artistic model of space. The whole space, based on white and yellow, is more fashionable and international. The entrance space continues the water in the sky device, with the shape of the top of the hall and the decorative column originating from the elements of the book page, symbolizing culture.
